Into the Windau
We’ll roll out of Kitzbühel and ease our way to Schwarzsee, the calm water on our right as we head towards Schloss Münichau. From there it’s a steady spin onto the bike path, keeping it tight as we track through Kirchberg and onwards to Brixen im Thale. The valley opens up as we ride into Westendorf, before turning south into the Windau — a quieter world away from the noise below the Glanterer Kogel (1,473 m) and Hundskopf (1,836 m).
There are no major climbs here, just a steady uphill that pulls us deeper into the valley. The tip: save your energy on the ride out to Westendorf by sitting in the slipstream of the group — it makes the Windau feel that much easier.
The return leg has a different rhythm. With gravity on our side, the pace lifts, but stay sharp through the bends where cars sometimes drift across the centre line.
Our tip: the Windau is all about space and scenery — ride alongside someone new, take it in, and let the community vibe carry you all the way back.
